What is Practicum?

School practicum is a period of supervised teaching practice where student teachers go into a real school to teach actual students before becoming fully qualified teachers. This is an important annual activity on the College's Calendar.

What happens during school practicum You usually: Observe experienced teachers 👀 Prepare lesson plans 📝 Teach classes 👨‍🏫 Manage students Mark assignments Attend staff meetings Get evaluated by supervisors

Prior to a teaching practice happening, Canvassing has to take place. Our Teaching staff, under the guidance of the Deputy Principal - Academic, has to go out to schools within the province and sometimes neighboring provinces to speak to schools about our Practice Teaching Program. This is a very important task because the primary schools have to agree to host our practical teachers before we send our students to the schools to carry out the practical.

For this year, 2026, our Canvassing Teams have gone out last week starting on the 19th of March. The Canvassing teams went to Schools in Morobe province and Eastern Highlands Province to secure their support and participations for this years practicum program.
